Hearthstone, Centegra partner for transitional healthcare
Hearthstone will
manage transitional unit at Centegra Specialty Hospital-Woodstock
WOODSTOCK
– Hearthstone Communities and Centegra Health System have formed a
partnership to provide patient care services as the two organizations
continue to lead the way in preparing for the future of healthcare and its
reform. This week, Hearthstone Communities in Woodstock will begin managing
the 30-bed sub-acute rehabilitation unit at Centegra Specialty
Hospital-Woodstock, South Street.
The facility will be
renamed Hearthstone at Centegra. Hearthstone has been a Woodstock Senior
Living Provider for more than 120 years. Don Babbitt will be the leader of
the unit for Hearthstone. He has nearly 20 years of clinical management
experience and earned degrees in administrative medicine and healthcare
administration from the University of Wisconsin.
“Healthcare reform and
technological advancements are changing the delivery of healthcare,” said
Michael S. Eesley, chief executive officer of Centegra Health System. “We
are always looking at the needs of the communities we serve, analyzing the
best ways to provide area residents with the access to care they need, all
the while being mindful of the future of healthcare. Centegra and
Hearthstone share the values of genuine respect, passionate care and
integrity and have both served the needs of the community for many years.”
Terry Egan, president and
chief executive officer of Hearthstone Communities, said, “Hearthstone has
served the older adults and children of McHenry County for more than 120
years. Centegra has been an outstanding supporter of our services for many
of those years so this is a natural partnership that we are excited to
announce.”
Eesley added, “Centegra
remains committed to providing the community with exceptional care and
service. We are vested in the communities we serve and remain the largest
employer in McHenry County. This partnership will support strong and viable
healthcare for the future in our community.”
Hearthstone at Centegra
will provide sub-acute care, a level of nursing care often required for
patients who need a more intense level of skilled nursing care after a
medical or surgical hospital visit. These patients are frequently medically
fragile and may require special services, such as physical rehabilitation
after joint replacement surgery, intravenous medications and tube feedings,
improved management of chronic diseases such as chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure, and complex wound
management.

Executives Volunteer at Hearthstone
For
the second straight year, executives from Centegra Health System
chose Hearthstone as the place where they wanted to perform their
annual holiday service projects. This year one team worked on
crafts projects with the children in the Early Learning Center while
a second group decorated the Prairie Homes with lights and Christmas
wreaths. After their projects were complete, the volunteers were
treated to refreshments from residents in two of the Prairie Homes
units. Pictured at left is Centegra CEO Mike Eesley hanging a
holiday wreath at the Prairie Homes of Hearthstone.

Hazel Honored by Honor Flight Chicago
Hazel Powell, one of our residents at Hearthstone Village, was
recently treated to a day in Washington, D.C., honoring her for her
service to our country. Hazel was a WAVE during World War II, whose
job was encoding and decoding messages. She and 80 other veterans
were flown by Honor Flight Chicago to the capitol where they were
celebrated for their military service. At 95, Hazel was the oldest
person on the plane. She was sought out by many people including
young Navy women who wanted their picture taken with their
pathfinder and hero.
